Halal Cosmetics Companies You Need to Know

Always check to make sure your cosmetics are halal certified

The world of fashion and beauty is expanding at such a rapid rate, it can be hard to keep up! While at one time it was highly unusual to see anything in the media about Muslim style – in fact, if you asked many people they might say there was no such thing! – there has been a surge in recent times of Muslim fashion designers, cosmetic companies, bloggers and social media influencers. While the clothing remains modest, when it comes to cosmetics, there are no limits….just as long as it’s halal.

There are strict rules when it comes to the production of halal cosmetics and contrary to some beliefs, just  because a product is vegan, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it is also halal as it may still contain alcohol which can be absorbed into the skin. For a cosmetic brand to be truly halal, it must be certified by a third party and state very clearly on the label. Fortunately there are now many great companies making high quality halal cosmetics, not only in the traditionally Muslim countries, but all over the world. Here’s a selection of some of our favourite brands that you’ll easily be able to buy online, wherever you live.

Amara – this was the first halal cosmetics company in the USA and undoubtedly one of the largest. Amara uses all natural ingredients that are not just halal but organic too. The company aims to produce products that can be used, and loved, by Muslims and non-Muslims alike and the fact that the name Amara means ‘eternal beauty’ in Arabic sums up their philosophy.

Iba Halal Care – this Indian cosmetics and skincare company represents another first – they were the first halal and vegan brand in India. This company was founded by two sisters living in the USA who decided to quit their corporate jobs and move back to their home country. Since that time, the company has boomed and now produce over 60 products including make up, hair care, skin care and fragrances.

Tuesday in Love – with such a cute and unusual name, it’s only fitting that this company has a great back story! Tuesday in Love was originally started by an immigrant living in Canada who was unable to afford halal nail polish for his wife. With his medical background, he began experimenting in his kitchen until he finally came up with a good quality yet water permeable polish (as all halal nail products must be in order to perform ablutions). The story goes that it was a Tuesday  when he presented his wife with this labor of love and not only was the name of the company coined but it was the start of what has become an on-trend brand now loved by women all over the world.

Sampure Minerals

While many other cosmetics companies offer a whole range of body and hair products, Sampure Minerals focuses solely on make-up and, more specifically, mineral make-up. The company was founded in the UK in 2009 and aims to give their ‘Muslim sisters’ cosmetics that are not only high quality, using the finest ingredients but the first halal-certified make-up brand available in Europe. Sampure mineral make up is known and loved for it’s vibrant colors and luxurious feel and designed to bring out the beauty of the wearer regardless of age or skin type.
