5 Lip Care Tips to Prevent Dry, Cracked Lips

You have many assets that make you the gorgeous individual that you are, one of the most important of those assets are your lips. You speak with them, kiss with them, and express yourself with them which is why you don’t want to be walking around with dry cracked lips! Here are some helpful tips to prevent dryness and cracking to keep those lips healthy and plush.

1.  Don’t Pick at Your Lips

One of the worst things that you can do for your lips is picking or peeling away at them. When your lips are already dry and cracked, this will make it even worse. While it might seem natural to want to peel dead skin away, it can cause more damage, what you need to do is hydrate your lips to nurse them back to health.

2.  Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is key to maintaining healthy lips and preventing dryness or cracking. Make sure that you drink plenty of water and if your lips have been giving you a lot of trouble lately, try sleeping next to a humidifier.

3.  Don’t Use Harsh Cleansers on Your Lips

If you’ve been using harsh cleansers on your lips, it could be why they’re dry and cracked. These cleansers can really dry out your lips and should make you think about what they might be doing to the skin on the rest of your face as well. It’s always best to stick to gentle cleansers that are easy on the skin.

For those of you whose lips became dry and cracked after using a harsh cleanser, try putting some honey on them, honey is a fabulous natural moisturizer and your lips will thank you for it!

4.  Don’t Breathe Through Your Mouth or Lick Your Lips Frequently

Breathing through your mouth is another common cause of dry, cracked lips. The more that you breathe through your nose instead of your mouth, the better off your lips will be. Frequently licking your lips can also dry them out. Although it might seem counterintuitive, you dry out your lips when you lick them. A lot of people make the mistake of licking their lips in an attempt to hydrate them but it only makes it worse.

5.  Invest in Some ChapStick

ChapStick is popular for a reason, it works. Try making a habit of carrying ChapStick around with you and applying it several times a day. Using ChapStick every few hours is an easy and effective way to prevent your lips from becoming dry or cracked.

By staying hydrated and keeping some ChapStick on your person wherever you go, your lips will stay healthy and luscious for a long time to come.
