Getting fit for the summer is a goal most of us share, as being confident and comfortable in what we’re wearing means we can focus on having fun in the sun and enjoying all that the warmer months have to offer. So here are our top 5 tips on how to get fit this summer.
1. Make self-care a priority
Your body needs to be functioning at it’s best if any exercise and fitness you add to your routine is going to have the impact you’re looking for. That means getting enough sleep each night, staying hydrated and eating a healthy and balanced diet.
2. Set SMART goals and stick to them
Your fitness goals need to be specific, realistic, easy to measure, and achievable within a set period of time, so think carefully about what you want them to be and how you’re going to evaluate them. To help you stay motivated make sure you’re monitoring your progress as you go, as a better level of fitness is a gradual approach, and it takes time to see the full effects.
3. Find an accountability partner
As it can take a while to see any results, it’s easy to get discouraged and give up on a new fitness routine too early. Finding a partner to team up with that shares the same goals is a great way of staying motivated and keeping going when things get tough.
4. Mix your fitness routine up
Doing the same workout time after time is going to get boring. If you’re not enjoying what you do, it’s unlikely you’ll put in the effort needed to get the results you’re looking for. Mixing things up at the gym between cardio and strength training is a great way to achieve the right balance of exercise and overall fitness, throw in the occasional yoga or HIT class, and you’re all set for success.
5. Don’t be discouraged if things don’t go to plan
There will be obstacles in your path, whether it’s an unexpected injury or your work and family life keeping you from getting to the gym regularly. Whatever gets in your way don’t let it discourage you. Any progress towards getting fitter and healthier is a step forward to achieving your goal, so take a moment to consider what you have achieved and keep going!
